It was through bestselling author Wahida Clark that I learned about her author Shawn Trump, and I have to say after reading his book THE DEVIL'S GAME he has definitely found his gift.
The book unfolds in such a way that men and women will find something in it that they will latch on to, enjoy and want to talk about. It takes you into the life of a man named Chris who seems to have the world at his fingertips but is always at the mercy of forces seen and unseen who are determined to take it all away. Though no angel, Chris shows that he has a heart, and it definitely leads him to try to do good---but it's not the motive that gets him in trouble. It's the means he goes about doing what he does. No one, not even his own mother and the woman he loves seems able to get him to snap out of it, but when his decisions lead to not only jail time but a real threat on his family, decisions are made that prove his deal with the devil might be deeper than he could ever imagine.
The skill of Trump is that he allows you to feel what Chris feels, understand the world according to him but also see ourselves in the process. Many of us have made decisions that might have changed the course of our lives, but what are we willing to do to not just make it right but better ourselves along the way. It is the answer to questions like that which will keep you guess and turning the pages, trying to see if redemption can ever come to Chris and the world he lives in.
